I is for Igloo

A house in Alaska.
Some people think it’s made of ice.
I have a dear friend who thinks I live in one.

I don’t. My house (not made of ice) is a small ranch style without a garage and it’s seldom covered in ice.

B is for Book

B is for books of which I own lots. I have my favorites like Anne McCaffrey, Robert Asprin, Grace Livingston Hill. I also have hundreds of lesser-known favorites. F. M. Buzby comes to mind. He wrote a disturbing, heartfelt, twisted sci-fi romance that sticks in my head today (His Rissa series). I’m also a huge Patricia Wrede fan. Her Enchanted Forest Chronicles (Soon to be out in Kindle) got my son through the seventh grade. It’s a huge book (4 tiny books put together). My son carried to school every day for a solid year. He lived in that world. I don’t blame him; it’s a very fun world to live in. I also enjoy her Sorcery and Cecelia (the Enchanted Chocolate Pot) books. I’ve complete shelves of Heinlein, Elizabeth Moon, and Anne McCaffrey.
Yes, they each have their own shelf and in the case of McCaffrey, she has two.

Each series, each book meant something to my former self. I grew up reading these books, and they have shaped my writing, some more than others. I’ve lived in their land, breathed as their characters breathed and fell in love.

B is also for a book dear to my heart. Skydreamer.  A book that took me years to write, a book that is infinitely dear to my heart and a book that is now booking blog tours.

Lia Risso walked in on her fiancé and three other women on Valentine’s Day. Two celibate years later, her roommate creates a profile for Lia on a dating website—without her knowledge—and sets up a date. On Valentine’s Day.
Ryan Walsh, a self-made millionaire and libertine, refuses to commit to any one woman. Tossed from foster home to foster home as a child, Ryan is on guard against becoming vulnerable ever again.
One dinner…one night of dancing and flirting with the attraction between them, puts both Lia and Ryan in danger of heart break.
They have a choice—open themselves to the possibility of hurt or walk away, never knowing what might have been.

My nerve endings stirred as the subtle scent of sandalwood wafted across the table time and again. What man used sandalwood-scented soap anymore? By the cut of his suit and the Rolex on his wrist, Ryan Walsh had money. And plenty of it. Why no expensive cologne? The chick-lure nectar of the gods his type bathed in?

He grinned again, and heat filled the empty place only Mr. Pink had seen or stroked in two years. Ryan’s attention drifted to my lips and lingered as our waiter took his time pouring our wine.

I forced myself to breathe as my treasonous nipples pebbled, begging for attention.

Damnation. I do not want this.

He was too friggin’ sexy for his own good. And by his suggestive grin and the twinkle in his eyes, he knew it too.

“Are you ready to order, Lia?” Ryan asked, his focus staying on my face instead of dipping downward like most men’s did.

Praying my voice didn’t betray my arousal, I turned my attention the waiter. “I’ll have the shrimp Fra Diavlo.”

“And for you, sir?”

Ryan spouted off a few words in Italian, never once breaking eye contact with me.

My lips twitched. Papa would be impressed.

When the waiter ambled away, a smile—a real smile, not the cocky, you-know-you-want-me ones he had offered until then—revealed straight, white teeth. “So.”

His low voice caressed my ears, and I pressed my thighs together. Thank God I hadn’t shaved. No doubt he had little trouble getting women into his bed. Or their bed. Or against a wall.

Holy shit.

A is for Anxious

A is for Anxiousness.
Free dictionairy hints that Anxiousness can be used as a synonmym of eager.
Eager is definitely how I feel. In less than two months, Skydreamer becomes a reality.

A story that started with a spoiled little princess changed over the years to a story about a girl allergic to water.

So yes, A is for anxiousness. I’m anxious for people to like it, anxious to see how it does in this big big world and anxious to make my publisher proud.

(And you were worried that I was going to pick, A is for Aardvark!)

Guiding Hearts by Claire Gillian
Description: Is a lonely woman’s GPS sentient or is her subconscious taking her by the hand to help heal a scarred heart?

Better Latte Than Never by Katrina Sizemore
Description: Single and cold on Valentine’s Day, Hailey Merritt is not looking forward to working all day at the coffee shop while everyone around her is cheery with romance and she’s stuck trying to figure out her next step in life.

But, when a special bouquet arrives for her from a secret admirer, she decides to reserve judgment on this holiday and find whomever sent the flowers.

Maybe Cupid has a plan to make this her favorite Valentine’s Day ever.

Dream Architect by S.L. Hughson
Description: Taylor and Sons Custom Design keeps ASHLIN TAYLOR at arm’s length from her dream job. If only she were a son, she could follow her architectural dream. In the Taylor creed, girls get married and boys have careers. DYLAN CUTRIGHT focuses on finishing college and landing an architectural engineering job in a large firm. Minus emotional ties.

After their accidental encounter, their attraction is amplified during their work interaction. Unlike her family, Dylan encourages Ashlin to pursue her dream by enrolling in college. He even argues her case with Uncle Mike. All of this support confuses Ashlin because when she moves closer to him, he rebuffs her for reasons she can only speculate about.

Valentine’s Day might be the perfect opportunity for Ashlin to make him notice her. They are working together – alone – on the most romantic day of the year. Dylan builds her dream of career, but will he ever lower his walls and become more than just the man IN her dreams?

One Hot Angel by Jaylee Austin

Rock My Bones by Wendy Sparrow
Description: Jared has been eying the sexy mural painter from inside the museum’s paleontology lab, but she’s way out of his league. He can’t let her paint that obviously misplaced fern, though…even if it means initiating contact.

You could call her a paleontology groupie, but Shay Meyers is interested in a more modern specimen. An adult male Homo Sapien to be exact—one who needs to be dragged out of his lab for a practical course in mating rituals. If she’s lucky, this will be the Valentine’s Day she rocks his bones.

author interview

How did you come up with your story concept?
Claire Gillian:

We’ve been led astray by our car’s GPS quite a few times. On a recent trip, the device was obnoxiously persistent in trying to get us to take a certain route. Hubby and I believed the thing might be sentient and began talking to it, even naming it.

Katrina Sizemore:

I wanted to write a friends to lovers story based in a coffee shop, where the guy is just looking to cheer her up as a friend, even though he’s totally been crushing on her for years. It just struck me as a very sweet tale that I wanted to play with.

S.L. Hughson:

Usually unrelated things snap together to give me an idea for a story. This was different. I saw the call for submissions, decided I wanted to shoot for a NA story, and wrote down three “accidental” situations. The conflict for “Dream Architect” blossomed once I began brainstorming.

A few blurbs from that brainstorming session: “she wants to get away from her family; he doesn’t have time for a relationship. He needs a job and she wants his college life.” So they are drawn together by deeper needs and desires – but with different goals, their conflict is birthed effortlessly.

Jaylee Austin:

The idea of asking for a date on a Blog Post intrigued my interest in figuring out what might happen if someone actually answered the blog. My partner and I have a wonderful eclectic group of friends with varying personalities. Needless to say one of our kids friends has this unique charisma of wildness in a sweet loving way. So I focused on the contrast of layers found within a person. Between these two ideas the story developed into One Hot Angel.

Wendy Sparrow:

I wanted a very unlikely love interest and I have a soft place in my heart for geeks. Once I’d decided I wanted my hero to be a paleontologist—the story wrote itself.AccidentalValentine_Cvr (2)
